English Department of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung conducted an engaging field trip for fourth-semester students to develop their writing and creating multimedia content skills. Kota Tua in West Jakarta, renowned for its rich historical and cultural heritage, was chosen as the key destination of this visit.
Students explored various aspects of Kota Tua, including its historical buildings and unique local atmosphere. Accompanied by experienced lecturers, they gained valuable insights into the area’s history and culture while experiencing the daily life of the local community. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights for understanding Indonesia’s cultural and linguistic context, also enriching their understanding of the country’s cultural diversity.
Furthermore, they were assigned to create multimedia content based on their experiences, such as video vlogs and travel writing. This assignment helps them develop their writing and video production skills and also introduce them to the essential visual communication abilities in today’s digital era. As a result, the field trip effectively integrated academic theory with practical application, preparing students for the complex challenges of the professional world.
English Department aimed to inspire them to be creative, explore their potential, and deepen their understanding of the crucial role of literature and culture in shaping human identity and civilization. Students hoped to become proactive agents of change, preserving and promoting cultural heritage while fostering cross-cultural understanding in the future.
